Diploma in Psychology – Internship Programs
The internship programs associated with the Diploma in Psychology provide students with practical experience in counseling and related fields. These internships are structured to offer essential hands-on knowledge, skill development, and professional connections in the counseling sector. All internships comply with current counseling regulations in Sri Lanka, and completion of a recognized counseling diploma is a prerequisite for participation.
Program 1: 7-Day Specialized Counseling Workshop
The 7-day specialized counseling workshop is mandatory for students who have completed the Diploma in Psychology at LPEC Campus. This program is free for diploma students. Participation is required for obtaining the diploma certificate. Students unable to attend the workshop will have their certificates marked accordingly.

- Location: LPEC Campus, Main Office, Kiribathgoda
Program 2: Six-Month Counseling Internship
After completing the theoretical portion of the Diploma in Psychology, students must undergo a six-month counseling internship. The internship is divided into three stages:
Stage 1:
The first two months consist of weekend workshops held every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the LPEC Campus in Kiribathgoda. These sessions are conducted by Dr. Bhagya Abeysinghe, Head of the Psychology Department, along with other experts in the counseling field.
Stage 2:
Following the initial two months, students participate in practical training and field trips twice a week, visiting and receiving training at various institutions:
- National Institute of Mental Health
- Rehabilitation Centers
- Prisons and Open Camps
- Sri Lanka Police Women & Children’s Bureau
- Social Service Offices
- Government and Private Psychiatric Clinics
Stage 3:
After completing nine months, students are required to finish 340 hours of practical counseling experience at a relevant institution of their choice.
Eligibility
- This internship is available to all students who have completed the Diploma in Psychology at LPEC Campus or any recognized institution.
- Students from Sinhala Medium Groups 03-06 and English Medium Groups 01-04 are eligible for the six-month internship upon completing their diploma.
- Students from Sinhala Medium Group 07 and above, as well as English Medium Group 05 and above, can start the six-month internship during the second semester.
Program Fees
- LPEC Diploma Students: LKR 12,000
- Recognized Institution Diploma Holders: LKR 30,000
(Note: Fees cover training and administrative costs.)
Program 3: International Internship Program
Diploma holders from LPEC Campus or other recognized institutions can participate in a 6-day international internship program in Malaysia. This internship includes 5 days of intensive training at top mental health centers, followed by one day dedicated to practical exposure.

LKR 325,000 (Applicable to LPEC and other institution students)
